Personalised support service
It’s ever been more important to make sure we’re here for people diagnosed with breast cancer from day one.
As a charity we have been providing specialist information and support for over 40 years. Our range of services are accessible to people living with breast cancer at any stage, whether they have just been diagnosed with primary or secondary breast cancer, or whether they adjusting to life after treatment.
However, we repeatedly hear from our service users that they wish they had heard about our services sooner. And for health care professionals, we are aware that it can be hard to signpost each patient to each Breast Cancer Now service at a time that is right for them.
Following a successful pilot of our Personalised Support referral service, we want to expand our support. We’ll be reaching out to new hospitals, recruiting more volunteers, and relaunching the service in early 2021.
How it works
Here’s how the service works...
- Our services teams will work in partnership with breast care nurses and health care professionals across the UK to enable them to refer their patients directly to Breast Cancer Now at the earliest, or most appropriate, point after diagnosis.
- This will mean people with breast cancer will find out earlier about how Breast Cancer Now can support them and so feel better supported during their treatment and beyond.
- Volunteers will be tasked with making calls to patients at key points throughout their diagnosis and treatment, to discuss their concerns and signpost to the Breast Cancer Now service(s) that can best meet their needs.
These calls will require sensitivity, skill and knowledge. As someone who has expressed an interest in hearing how you can help, we wanted to reach out to ask you, if you think this could be the right role and right time for you to help?
